MUNKIE is the alter-ago of a highly professional and talented, Leeds based, Producer and Musician, Jason Clark. He creates music that is a sonic art-form containing many elements of lucious layered instruments to stir the emotions and engage the mind. This truly original downtempo / melodic electronica style music has been described as a long chilled drink containing elements of Electro, Funk, New Wave, Psychadelia and Ska with World music to add the flavour.
“Lush, downtempo electro-pop tracks from MUNKIE, with Kate Peters delivering some strong vocals. One thing for sure, you can be under no illusions as to the depth of MUNKIEs (aka Jason Clark) talent. Highly accomplished understanding of production and songwriting. There is enormous potential here”

The 3rd album “Dark Corners” is now finished and is brooding, club beat laidend affair, slightly more up-tempo than previous work but still retaining the dark, inner-city feel. They are starting the promotion of this album with some live shows around the UK. MUNKIE have tracks from the first two albums playlisted on independent worldwide radio stations, and these tracks appear in the top 10 of the most requested tracks for the stations, they are looking to plug some tracks off this new album to larger stations. They have gained a large, loyale, fan-base and are looking for management to guide their career.
MUNKIE have just completed their first video promo for the track “Antidote to Strychnine” and are starting to promote it via digital and cable channels. Whilst talking about TV, they have also licenced tracks from all three albums for use in a film produced by O’Neill clothing, currently in production to be released in 2008.
On a final note Jason says, “I love making music, it’s a major part of my life and enjoy all the aspects of music production. The reason is that I like the reaction from people when they listen to what I have created whether this is positive or negative. I like to think that somehow I can make a difference to someone’s day.”
Jason and Kate met at the Leeds College of Music where they were both studying. Jason has an extensive background in music production and composition having been a professional DJ and creating remixes for various labels. This includes the Media Records back catalogue. Other remixes include Beck -Mixed Bizness, Tweaker - Microsized Boy, Baldwin Brothers - Dream Girl, Liberty-X - Just a Little Bit, Lo-Fi Allstars - Somebody Needs You and Fila Brazillia - DNA to name a few. MUNKIE was formed from a recording session in a Leeds studio, where Jason was producing a track and Kate was the singer. Kate, being an accomplished vocalist added depth, sex and sass to the tracks, which gave them an extra dimension. She has extensive previous experience with performing in covers bands, providing top-line vocals and teaching.
MUNKIE are gaining recognition for their music having been nominated for Best Electronica Albim 2006 in the JPF Awards in LA last year. Also the track ‘Dreams (are there)’ entered the top 50 American Unsigned Charts in 2006 through downloads. The track “Antidote to Strychnine” reached #5 in the All-Time charts on Garageband. With a large fan-base consisting of over 30,000 fans on MySpace they sold around 3,000 copies of the album “Chemical Process” on downloads during 2005/2006.
Looking to the future, MUNKIE are highly driven to be successful. They are motivated by the thought of headlining at the Glastonbury Festival and a UK and USA #1 album. Jason also wants to be involved with composing movie and computer game soundtracks, this has already been displayed with his involvement with independent film makers and music libraries. He would also love to produce a well-known artist’s album.
“Jason Clark has yet again proved that he’s a talented young man. His production is something to be proud of. The layered synths, processed beats and programmed everything else are not easy to achieve. Yet he’s put so much attention to detail, it’s hard to fault” Gavin Miller - Leeds Music Scene
